How to Play Krillion

Quick start: the Daily Dive

Open the Krillion Daily Dive and select Start Dive. Everyone receives the same seven open-answer prompts for the current Beijing calendar day. Each round previews a category, then gives you 25 seconds to type and submit one answer. There are no multiple-choice options: if the category asks for a city, book, animal, food, invention, or character, you choose the example.

1. Read the entire category before the timer opens.
2. Think past your first obvious answer, but keep it accurate.
3. Submit one clear answer before the 25-second window closes.
4. Review the tier, points, and explanation before continuing.

How rarity scoring works

Krillion rewards rare valid answers. Recognized responses move through six editorial rarity tiers, from familiar ideas near the surface to One in a Krillion at the deepest level. A less expected response can earn more points and send the submarine farther down, but an obscure word that does not fit the category is still a miss. Accuracy always comes first.

The tiers are game-design judgments, not claims that every answer has been measured in a worldwide survey. A strong approach is to notice your first thought, use a few seconds to find a specific or regional alternative, and then submit the answer you can defend. After each round, the result card explains the recognized answer, rarity tier, and score.

Use the Daily Hint when a category is unclear

The Daily Dive includes one optional hint per Beijing calendar day. It reveals three accepted examples from different depths so you can understand the intended category. Using the hint does not reduce your score, but once it is used you must wait for the next daily reset to receive another. The hint is designed as guidance, not as a complete list of accepted answers.

Choose Daily, Unlimited, or a themed mode

Daily is the short shared challenge: seven prompts, one hint, and one ranked opportunity for that day. The 100-prompt Unlimited mode is a longer free run with no daily lock and no hint. It is useful for practicing the same open-answer strategy across a much broader mix of categories.

For focused play, the themed modes cover Books, Movies, and Basketball. Each world contains five fixed chapters with seven prompts per chapter and can be replayed. Your progress and completed results are stored in the current browser, so clearing site data or changing devices may remove local history.

Ranked attempts and global leaderboards

The global leaderboards publish the Top 100 for Daily, Unlimited, Books, Movies, and Basketball. The first eligible run you start for a challenge is your ranked attempt; later starts are practice and do not replace that score. Daily has current-day, historical-day, and All-time views, while Unlimited and themed modes use All-time standings.

You do not need to create an account. Krillion creates a private browser identity for ranking and publicly shows only a generated Guest alias, country or region, score, and position. The scoring rules are the same whether a run is ranked or practice.
